New Site! New Blog! Same Dude!!

Well hello and welcome to Yet Another Site of Mine, my gaming-centric blog. Its a title that may not be final, but reflects how I feel about being so spread out across the interweb. Seriously, I daily check or update my Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, YouTube, various email & web accounts, etc., and now this is just another one of my daily sites I've given myself to try and maintain. But this one may end up being my favorite, as I get to go on and on to no one in particular about one of my fave subjects, that being video gaming. Not just about Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft, but all of gaming, anything, as objectively as I can be, and as varied as possible. I have always felt that if a game is a good game, its a good game, regardless of the system its on, and that is how I appoach this blog, always with an open mind.

Having stated that, let me tell you a bit about me. I have always, from Pong & the 2600 as a kid, to Wii & 360 today, loved video games. Always. I don't know what it is about them exactly. Is it the escape from reality? An appreciation of the art and imagination being displayed? An appreciation of the technical innovations and advancements? A love of competition? And the desire to always strive to be the best, and then to try and beat yourself when you are the best? Yeah, its all those things, and more. I guess I just can't put it distinctly into words, but I would hope that you get my drift by now. For better or worse, gaming is under my skin, ingrained into my personality in a way. Permanently. If you are a gamer, I know you will understand what I mean. I loves me some video games, I does.

I also happen to love writing. I always have, ever since I was very little, when I'd write stories or draw comic books, all through growing up, writing essays or reports in school, letters, emails, love letters, blogs, poems, stories, fiction, non-fiction, bbs, jokes, speeches, songs, reviews, thoughts, diaries, posting comments - hell, I'd write whatever I could, or wanted to, and I've always really enjoyed doing it! In fact, Journalism/Professional Writing was my goal when I went back to school in '99 (which when I did, by the way, and not to needlessly just brag (seriously), I recieved a mark of 100% on all but only a very few essays over three semesters in both English and Social Studies classes. That gave me the confidence to always keep writing, whether I ever find success with it or not). Not to say that I'm a great writer or anything like that, at all, just simply that I have a desire to do it. I love writing, in any form, I really do.

So it is only natural then, I assume, I would really love to write about video games, and so I have finally given myself a place to do just that. I would also like to say that I can obviously only review what I have, and so therefore at this time there will be no PS3 or PSP reviews on here, and unless someone just gives me one, it may stay like that for awhile. This is not because I hate either of these capable machines, quite the contrary, I just can't really afford any more systems at this time (I just work a regular job, dude, and have a wife and daughter, and not an endless supply of game-spending cash), especially one that costs way more than my rent for one month (when you take into consideration I'd likely want to buy an extra controller, 2-3 games, and probably even some blu-ray movies, if I did make the PS3 purchase). Just about everything else though (I don't have a WonderSwan or NeoGeo, for example, and I'm not into PC gaming much at all) I do own, and play whenever I have a chance to.

This is not to say that I don't or can't have an opinion on something I don't own, based on information I recieve or otherwise learn or see. Of course not, how else would any of us ever form any opinion or desicion about anything in our life if we don't objectively judge the info available to us?! As well, just because someone likes something, or has a preference for one thing over another, or has a favoritve anything, that does not instantly make them a "fanboy", so please refrain from freely tossing that name at each other in the comments section (unless, of course, it is rightly deserved...). The term 'fanboy' is actually something I want to write about soon in the near future, a little essay on the subject, so keep an eye out for it.

While on that subject for a moment, I would just like to let it be known that I do, in my gaming life, yes, lean towards Nintendo when it comes to video games. Simply put, they've just always made my favorite systems and my favorite games (we all have our favorites, right?), and I'll always love Nintendo. I just wanted you, this site's readers, to know that. However, I do not think that automatically means that I am biased against all other companies (the 'obsessive fanboy' qualifier), which is quite frankly just not the truth. Some of the greatest games ever made, and some of my personal favorites ever, are not even on any Nintendo machine, nor will they ever be. I do not look at everything Nintendo does with rose-tinted glasses, and I do/will criticise their mistakes (of which over the years there have been many) as I would any other game company. Equally. As this is a gaming-centric blog, I just felt that should be known. Like I said earlier, this is a subject I intend to explore further in a future post.

Well, I just wanted a nice little "welcome to my new blog/getting to know you"" post to christen this new site with. More to come very soon.
